It all begins with an idea.
My Story
Military brat, born in Great Falls, Montana August 10th, 1996, my mother was a Military Police Officer for 6 years. Growing up in a single mother household with my younger brother and sister was a struggle. My mom has always worked multiple jobs and worn many different hats to make ends meet for our family.
Raising children is already a full time job and to have to do that alone is a lot for one person to carry, especially when your a Black Women in this country. I’ve witnessed my mom be strong in situations where she didn’t know what the solution was going to be, but even in the darkest moments she always finds a way to make things work..
I guess that’s what you call Black Girl Magic🎇
When my mom wasn’t working, or cooking, or cleaning, she was writing poetry, and after hearing her poems that’s what opened the door of creativity for me. She is the reason I was able to find myself in the world of art and design and she’s been my number 1 supporter since day 1. Despite the fact that we went through some hardships there’s nothing I would change about the way I was brought up, in the words of Fredrick Douglas:
“If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”
For the times I’ve had to see my mom struggle I learned a life lesson and those lessons have molded me into the independent, hard working, confident Black Women that I am today. I have about 3-4 years of retail and customer service along with 2 years of Visual Merchandising experience. I am currently a junior at Temple University with a double major in Graphic Design and Entrepreneurial Studies.
When I’m not in class or working on homework assignments I’m attending club meeting s and events. I’m a part of the Women of Color Creatives and the Artists of Color Collective here at Temple. I also spend a lot of my time helping facilitate community events such as the Philadelphia Black Women’s March that happens annually, as well as events for the Philadelphia Student Union .
